Anything that requires worldbuilding can be a little longer.
For a YA Fantasy, historical, sci-fi, paranormal, etc, you want to be under 100K or as close to it as possible.
For a YA contemporary you want to be closer to between 60-80K.
Curious...I am in the throws of revision on my YA High Fantasy manuscript. The word count is 90,000 at this point. What are your thoughts/advice about word count and cutting/maintaining it? The manuscript is also being proofread by a third-party with a background in copywriting. Thank you kindly.— mygatheringplace
